Combined spent in excess of 190 years in prison. Innocence canada currently has approximately 90 cases under review. Compared to us stats we aren"t as bad as the us. But the fact that we canadian citizens who are spending time in prison as innocent people - spent 9 years of their life in prison. Idea of wrongful conviction matters because individual lives are ruined. We also have a system where if you can trust the system then what can you trust. Wrongful conviction questions the legitimacy of our justice system and the integrity. This past sunday oct 2 was wrongful conviction day.
