When a group consciously pushes back and tries to redefine norms its called tertiary deviance. Groups lookast what were telling people about what beautiful should be or what sexy should look like and refdefine it. What we think its beautful and how w ejudge people are based on broad societal ideas, what we expect, what we think is valueable. We need to look beyond the image itself. The image represents something, the wuestion is whst. Voluntary: we can choose to a certain extent these things. Things are not the same culture to culture from time to time s. People were workign class farmers and got tanned. What is ideal body image today - objectively. What is important to us and how does it translate into what we currently see as attractive.
