A minority group: disabled people are considered a minority group - minority groups are no necessarily the smallest group, it is not about numbers, but it is about power. Remembering, communicating, social relationships: we all have an idea when we hear the word disability of what it looks like, not all people with disabilities consider themselves to be objects of discrimination. There are people who don"t disclose, who are undiagnosed, so this is only the official number that we know we have. Most common related to pain, flexibility and mobility. Issues with the model we are using: internal self fulfilling prophecy: master status. Social model of disability: a social model of disability emphasizes social forces and public issues rather than individual variation and troubles. Social issues that put the label of disability on someone: comes in when others start treating them as if they are different or wrong. Talks about challenging our way of thinking about disability.
