Week 6/7 the sociological study of drug use & social construction. Pharmacology: chemical structure of the drug, pharmaceuticals, all drugs have pharmaceutical properties, chemists test it at face value (not moral properties) Biology: genetic aspects for the individual, way in which certain drugs can be metabolized, different groups (sociological standpoint) have different effects from drugs, social sciences. A lot to offer about drug use. Used in certain ways by certain people for different reasons. These cannot be answered by a pharmacologist or biologist. Anthropology: cultural surroundings, and underpinnings carry different means and how it varies over time, social groups. Political science: politics related to rugs, policies, no conversation in parliamentary debates on drugs and legislation, no evidence in government settings of a meaning conversation being added - no justification or engagement with community or public. About political power being able to enforce these laws against people in ways where there are significant effects: how power is acquired with drugs.
