He said we are part of a civilizing process. Two factors he came up with: shame people don"t have to tell us if were shame or not. We are learned about shame in earlier ages ex: parents taught us to be shame of something if we did something wrong. Peoples face becomes red/ they feel red. They have this immediate feeling of shame and uncomfortable. Feeling of repugnant: embarrassment a more minor form of shame. Something you are uncomfortable about /embarrassed about. Something we done that has made us feeling embarrassed. We worry so much about what others thing when we do something. Worry about shame and embarrassment on ourselves. A strange feeling ex: having someone random tell you your lye is open. Sports is the area we can do things which are not allowed everywhere else: in a civilizing process, area of sports is something you like doing.
