The enlightenment: doctrine of naturalism (the natural world and the social world could be understood in terms of cause and effect, there ability to use science to figure out what is happening, scientific method. We can study it, understand it, and control it: there awareness that values have to be bracketed cant deny them, but they have to be put away from yourself when you do science, makes us objective. Project is to use our rationality to use science, to understand and control the natural and social world: rational: logically figure out what i think will be the sequence of events. Reason: the inquiry into whether or not i ought to do what i can do. Example: abortion pro life, pro choice, the solution is to make a world with no unwanted pregnancy. This is beginning to divorce god from the world. Removing of god towards the situation that is just based on faith, not the destruction of god.
