Families aren"t just the belief of emotional attachment (ex. Family is one of the major (6) institutions in society and many believe it is the most important institution. Family is where the next generation is being created. Functions of family socialization of young members in the family, stabilization of the adults in the family. Some argue that media has taken over the socialization of our children to some extent. We have preconceived notions of how family works which is not the actual reality of an experience. Common sense beliefs that we have (ex. Cohabitation people who live together before marriage are twice as likely to get divorced but many wouldn"t think so) Strong personal opinions (how we are raised and brought up) We have limited knowledge of what actually happens within families. Self-reported questionnaires but information might not be very accurate (consciously and unconsciously forget something especially with sensitive issues)
