After 5 years over 50% of kids are doing as well as children in intact marriages. Children of divorce have a greater risk of: health problems, delinquency, emotional distress, underachievement, promiscuity. Most kids after divorce live with their mom in single parent families after divorce and then step. There are issues that come up with the kids in reconstituted families. The thinking used to be stay together because of the children, don"t really think like that anymore. Kids often think that their parents don"t love them when they get divorce. Kids often think that the divorce is their fault. They think the divorce happened because they did something or they didn"t do something. Sex of the child: boys have a harder time adjusting, loss of same sex parent, greater vulnerability to stress, less positive mother-son interactions, boys who are with their home after divorce fair worse.
