Family life in the 21st century: the future advances in the same direction (things are always getting better; life expectancy has gone up, society with fewer clear values, more social problems, less stability, and less certainty. Establishing family policy: some kind of social action may be desirable, research, examine non-traditional lifestyle, discover outcome for individuals and society, policy implication, produce fewer, but better jobs. Research on family evaluation: existing policy needs to be evaluated, determine if goals of social programs achieved, assess effectiveness actual outcomes, measure fit between goals or objectives of a program. Impact on families to be analyzed: assess intendent and unintended consequences of policies and social programs, unintended counterproductive, negative consequences. What makes a good life: social relationships are good for us: loneliness kills, quality of close relationships matters, good relationships protect our mental and physical health. People who spend money on other people are happier.
