Increased economic security, less unemployment (tends to happen after a war) More educational opportunities (both men and women attending university) 90% of people thought being married with kids led to a happy life: most owned their own homes (avg. 30 yr old man could buy their own home with 15-18% of his income: traditional nuclear family. Women: dependent on marriage, focus on family & house, cult of domesticity , working compromised husband"s decision. Men: pressured into family roles, responsible for family welfare. Earrings must support the whole family: more highly educated. Children: child centered society, baby boom, tender years doctrine need mothers in the 1st 7 years of life or else your children won"t do well. Pro-family ideology: people tried to live up to ideals.
