Real world research involves interaction with human beings or subjects . Human subjects can be harmed; hence there are ethical standards and guidelines. Indeed, we have professional code of ethics governing our activities as sociologists. In addition, tri-council working group provides standardized set of ethical norms that transcend disciplinary boundaries. Research ethics boards (reb"s) or institutional review boards (irb"s) examine research proposals before these can be submitted to funding agencies or sources. Key components: voluntary participation, no harm to participants, anonymity and confidentiality, deception (and debriefing, sensitive issues and support, analysis and reporting (honesty, integrity, and the mission of social science) Select s under by title and then click on sociological abstracts . Can use various combinations of words to do keyword search . Conduct keyword search of author"s name, words to be found in articles" abstracts, title, journal name, etc. Different types of reviews: self-study, context reviews, historical reviews, theoretical reviews, integrative reviews, methodological reviews.
