Like content analysis, makes use of already existing sources of data: however, secondary analysis typically refers to the re-analysis of quantitative data rather than text, often involves combining information from multiple databases to examine research questions. Secondary analysis: special case of utilizing existing stats that reanalyzes previously collected survey or other data originally gathered by others. If we want to know how to improve conditions of people, we need to collect data. Locating data: data archive =bank of information, a large amount of information exists in governmental agencies, international organizations, and private sources, private source =large corporations, ex. Gmc (car brand) or insurance companies: many documents are free and publicly available, others may be borrowed or purchased. Lots of data available at libraries/online libraries: data is usually not current, ex. Census: collected every 10 years, but complete census was last carried out in 2011.
