Document Summary
Lecture 7 health policy in poor countries. Same life expectancy and family size in vietnam and u. s. (at the end of the war) U. s. had long life and small family. Vietnam had long life and small family. We is western world (long life and small family) Them is third world (short life and large family) This vastly changes the rest of the world moves into long lives and small families and we have a completely new world. There has been tremendous change in countries who have entered the demographic transition later. There is no significant gap between rich and poor, everyone falls in between from the poorest to the richest. The richest 20% take 74% of the income and the poorest 20% take 2% of the world"s wealth. Most of the world"s population has 24% of the income. While population increases, many people are coming out of poverty most people will be in the middle.
