Ads represent what it means to be male or female. People say they don"t want to see stereotypes in ads, but they consume more positively to the stereotypes. Play on our desires, and what we crave by these representations. Society is largely binary male and female divides want to identify people into these two categories being able to categorize an ambiguous person. Gender isn"t static, change with the culture and time period. Men in media: independent, savour freedom, adventurous, competitive, ambitious, use/sell important items, intelligent, keeping cool, show with big ticket items.
