Canadians are staying in school longer but significant number of canadians experience illiteracy. Claim they are doing a better job. Getting more students to stay in high schools and go on to university. But could it be due to poorer standards and low expectations. In the us sat (scholastic aptitude test) scores declined. Tv and video games are more appealing than reading: smaller vocabulary, less rigour in thought and verbal expression. Other examples: (cid:858)frill(cid:859) (cid:272)ourses less homework fewer term papers. Dismal classroom conditions the result of cutbacks. Cut money from three areas: education, health, and social services. Educational practices in canada are linked to larger global trends in particular the trend of neoliberalism. Global education refers to the delivery of education in a way that recognizes the context of subjects and a broader geographical framework than simply the one in which and students and teachers live. Perspective acknowledges alternative approaches and promotes intercultural understandings.
