Dimensions of studying technology: material dimension: limited in scope, the artifact, the object itself. Social dimension: focuses on how social life, habits, social norms, and practices together affect the use of technology and its consequences: marxist tradition: he realized that labour is closely aligned with technology, especially when looking at inequality. Large machinery simplify, but lead to de-skilling of the workers =lower wages, and less understanding of work: ex. Automation: manufacturing of everything (like cars, gm, ford etc. : think of tesla: elon musk wants to make a non-human plant, this way you don"t have to pay people, more consistent not prone to error. Failed: ethical dimension: critically examines how technology can have unexpected consequences that affect adversely people"s lives.
