Historical studies of youth: conceptions of youth are historically and culturally specific. September 16, 2014: during the 20th century, most youth found their lives heavily conditioned by class, race, and gender processes that defined much of their early lives and set limits to what they might possibly become through adulthood. The theories used in youth studies emerge out of the need to make very complex empirical social processes relating to youth amenable to investigation.
