Document Summary

Lecture 4 work and changing employment opportunities: the problem: declining employment prospects. Youth in post-secondary schools are being trained to be white-collar workers who conform well to working conditions with low wages: the neoliberal era. Liberalism in economy means the free market. Neoliberalism is the most recent period of free-market capitalism, where many of the regulations have been taken off. There has been a trend to prevent monopolization, because it goes against the free-market (i. e. no freedom of choice and no competition) There could be an argument that the neoliberal era has been responsible for the prolongation of youth. During youth, many people cannot find full employment; which could have a scarring effect. Between the 1930s and 1950s citizens wanted the government to take control of the economy, which created the middle class. The economy benefits from keeping money circulating and to keep everyone working.
