Local to global inequality: global income distribution and poverty, environmental effects at home, global environmental effects, globalization: a process of increasing interconnectedness of people, products, ideas, and places. Introduction of western television, increasing anorexia rates in ghana and fiji. Denmark, iceland, switzerland, finland, netherlands -> happiest countries: all are welfare states. Long history of having drugs tested on poor people: poverty and brain drain = immigration of high-skilled labour for us, poverty = work for rich specialists, experts, and celebrities. Investments of mnc (multi national corporations) means decline of repression and oppressive regimes: overall argument, sweatshop labour starts a virtuous cycle, following humane labour practices ( by western standards) would destroy labour economies. Concerns regarding sweatshops: exploitation in cheap labour countries, bad working conditions, poor pay, child labour, lack of labour regulations. Ignoring human rights abuses: support oppressive regimes, race to the bottom.
