Chapter 3: i am canadian what canadian culture. De ning culture: culture: the sum total of the social environment in which we are raised and continue to be socialized in throughout our lives. Culture entails a wide assortment of ideas, customs, behaviours, and practices. Societies + groups within the same culture differ in how they develop + carry out practices, they also share the same features. Basic elements of culture include the foundations of our expectations that are rooted in: Geography, climate, language, norms, and values, and traditions. Many of our decisions in life involve some level of individual choice . Building the sociological imagination look for ways those choices are intertwined with larger sociocultural forces (culture which we are raised) Canadians come to share cultural ideas about what is important (securing a job) And what the appropriate means are for obtaining desired goals (going to school)
