The power of culture is that it makes our sensory experiences meaningful. Allows us to be free and experience others cultures or exercise our own. Often constricts on what we can do. Culture: the shared symbols and their definitions that people create to solve real-life problems. Anything that represents something that it isn"t. Maple leaf is a symbol of canada, or a wedding ring is a symbol of love or legal status. Can be different pertaining to the culture (giving someone a peace sign in england can mean something other than peace) Symbols- anything that represents something that it isn"t. Language- a system of symbols that allows people to communicate with one another. Values- overarching ideas of things, what"s good to some people. Ideal values: what you should be thinking or believing. Real values: the reality of the situation. Beliefs- specific statements that people hold to be true. Norms- specific statements about actions or behaviours.
