Guest lecture: dr. sean waite, department of sociology. Studies labour market inequality (women and immigrants) Little research on gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in the labour market. Challenges: surveys need to be really large. Gay men and lesbians go into a-typical occupations/fields. Sexual minorities avoid living in alberta which essentially closes work opportunities but some find being a minority an advantage (only cisgender gay men say this) His research has significant impact on the lgbtq community because there is barely any research happening - gives these organizations evidence to support their claims. The human rights legislation (anti-discrimination) doesn"t go far enough- more promotion on diversity in the workplace. Audit study- employment discrimination: putting out fairly identical resumes but changing the names (i. e. one being anglo-saxon sounding name and a foreign sounding name) Questions that can be asked about that topic.
