Gender differences in teaching in the post-secondary education system: The gendered classroom: early 1990s: books published about how schools were failing girls, failing at fairness (sadker and sadker, 1994, school girls (orenstein, 1994, how schools shortchange girls (aauw, 1992) Interactions between teachers and students were benefiting boys more than girls. Findings: short-circuiting the girls: teachers do for female students. What do we teach them to value: we see boys disconnecting from themselves/academia and favoring exaggerated masculinity, upworthy clip: (cid:862)the mask you li(cid:448)e i(cid:374)(cid:863) Informal interactions between students, children, and peers that may subtly encourage (or discourage) girls and boys, teens, young adults to abide by traditional gender roles. Inequality at the margins/ the periphery: student subcultures, extra-curricular activities surrounding schools.
