Obesity, the number one health problem and social problem. A wide range of mental health conditions. Disorders that affect mood, thinking and behaviour. Ongoing signs and symptoms cause frequent stress and affect ability to function. As a society we are uncomfortable with mental illnesses. Everyone at some time through a family member, friend or colleague. People of all ages, educational levels, occupations, incomes, and cultures. Medications you can manage them, but there is no cure. Major depression 8% of adults in canada. Schizophrenia 1% of canadians (generally a psychosis take the medication and feels good, so they stop taking meds and then they spiral out of control) Pepp prevention center for people with psychosis. Some sort of stressor will escalate it. Substance abuse: pot smoking will trigger it. Not caused by childhood experiences (having a good or bad upbringing does not contribute to mental illnesses) Not caused by poverty (more likely your are poor because you are mentally ill)
