Document Summary
A loss of beauty in the modern period. Aporia- the inclination to doubt, to have objection. Standing on the edge of a precipice, dangerous, could fall, but theres beauty there. Horror became the focus of works of art. War even had a sense of glamour about it. Is it danger to come, or a rabbi who transcends earth. The dark figure is between the bright colours. Things are off centre, the land is now unkown to him. Mournful, loss of a certain way of life. He loves the village he grew up in, it is about to be lost. Still trying to convey light and what is beautiful. Beauty cannot exist without some sense of the transcendant. A sense of hope in the face of despair. The painting is not devoid of any living person. One person alive raising questions, thinking about the future. Its almost like walking through their grave with them.
