Eg see adult lying on a park bench ambiguous (sick? drunk? tired?) The altruistic personality: studied personalities of rescuers & non-rescuers during the holocaust. Oliner & oliner: 231 rescuers 126 non-rescuers. Rescuers reported warm & stable relationships w parents (secure attachment) Helpful behaviour has more to do w how they were socialize. Also greater perceived similarity to jews . High in empathy, sense of responsibility for welfare of others & self-ef cacy. Interpersonal reactivity index: measures individual differences in empathy. 4 sub-scales: perspective taking, empathetic concern, personal distress, fantasy.
