Within the practice of babbling, they are practicing their own language phonemes, pitch, rhythm. Morphemes smallest units of meaning (eg. s at the end of words) Huge variation in how well words are articulated, what the words are, when they appear. The first word is usually meaningful or something that has a definite meaning eg. ball, dog. Holophrases a single word stands for a larger sentence (eg. up). Learning a few key nouns and verbs rather than a full sentence.
