Lecture 9 schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders. Schizotypal personality disorder- mild form, research has shown that there is a common genetic basis. Delusional disorder- separate psychotic disorder and only have delusions. Brief psychotic disorder- symptoms up to a month. Its so common yet it gets so little attention (viewed in media in a negative way) I have some control of the environment (e. g. can make it rain) Residual- attenuated symptoms following active phase: active phase lasts at least 1 month, all phases last at least 6 months. Social support is really important and is a huge buffer against illness --- > don"t really know the answer to why recover is better in developing countries. Biological aspects of schizophrenia: shown to be some genetic aspect to schizophrenia- if one identical twin has it, 48% that the other will have it too. Receptors?- unclear: other neurotransmitters: norepinephrine, glutamate, serotonin, gaba.
