Theory of mind (tom): is the ability to attribute mental states beliefs, intents, desires, pretending, knowledge, etc. To oneself and others and to understand that others have beliefs, desires, intentions, and perspectives that are different from one"s own. Metacognition: refers to higher order thinking which involves active control over the cognitive processes engaged in learning. Activities such as planning how to approach a given learning task, monitoring comprehension, and evaluating progress toward the completion of a task are metacognitive in nature. Four pillars of human consciousness include: self-awareness if i see a reflection of myself i understand it"s me theory of mind mental time travel (episodic-like memory/future planning) metacognition/metamemory. Each of these involves an individual remembering or inferring the contents of his/her own mind or that of another person. Although these processes have often been isolated for study, they undoubtedly overlap and interact with one another in daily cognitive activity.
