Psychology 2080A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Criterion Validity, Content Validity, Face Validity
Document Summary
Irrelevant content domain: or only one or two aspects of the material. Important in educational settings: can actually be a problem in educational settings because it is assessed with logic. What reduces content validity: content-irrelevant variance, arises when irrelevant items are included on test, arises when external factors such as test anxiety or reading comprehension influence test scores, e. g. including words beyond scope of vocab, construct under-representation. Is domain of content adequately covered: e. g. o(cid:374)l(cid:455) 2 q"s o(cid:374) (cid:272)hapte(cid:396) 2 a(cid:374)d the (cid:396)est is e(cid:448)e(cid:396)(cid:455)thi(cid:374)g else. Predictive criterion validity: test scores used to predict future performance how good is the prediction, sat predicts gpa for undergrads, but gpa is also influenced by other things that reduce the sat- Gpa relationship: e. g. personality, work habits, class size, part-time work, grading standards. Interestingly, med schools starting to include personality to assess admissions.
