Emotion: automatic, patterned response to event that includes: behavioral-facial expressions, conscious appraisal of eliciting event (feeling of loss) Basic emotions: sadness, surprise, disgust, fear, happiness = innate & universal. Face contains all info we need to identify whether the emotion person is experiencing is happiness, sadness, fear, etc. ex: shape of mouth, brow, etc: used in many diff cultures = innate & universal.
