Psychology 2036A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 34: High Intensity Training, Anaerobic Glycolysis, Acclimatization

20 views8 pages

Document Summary

Fibre types readily change within the type 2 fibres as 11x fibres become more oxidative. This has been observed with high intensity training. Changes from type 2 to type 1 fibres occur in response to cross-innervation or chronic electrical stimulation. Changes from type 2 to type 1 fibres in humans in response to aerobic training has not been demonstrated. More of a neural stimulus that causes the changes rather than a metabolic change caused by training. Specificity- the more sport specific the training, the better. Overload- continued improvement will not occur unless physiological systems are continuously overloaded. Very important if you want to see continued improvements. Vo2max on treadmill running would be identical to performing sport specific activity. Benefit gained in systems other than vo2max, strength and power (skill, efficiency) from increased frequency and duration of training may assist elite athletes. Skill/ efficiency makes up a huge component of people"s performance.
