Psychology 2036A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Glycogen
Document Summary
Fast twitch fibers can generate tremendous amounts of power for short period of time. The energy for fast twitch fibres from atp-pcr system or glycolysis. Glycogen use is very high when intensity is low (recruiting slow twitch fibres) Red fast twitch fibres use very little glycogen even if you go out for multiple hours. As intensity increases, glycogen levels in fast twitch fibres goes down because you are starting to recruit them. If the intensity is high very little glycogen is going to be used at high intensities in slow twitch fibres. High intensity very little glycogen use in slow twitch fibres and high glycogen use in fast twitch fibres. As muscle glycogen decreases you get an increased rate of exertion (you need to work harder and its going to hurt more in order to maintain same power output) As glycogen decreases you need to put in more effort to get same power output.
