There are two main types of personality tests: self-report inventories personality scales that ask individuals to answer a series of questions about their characteristic behavior. A vast range of traits can be measured with these tests, but are only as accurate as the information that the test takers provide. Deliberate deception and some people are unconsciously influenced by social desirability or acceptability of that statement can be problems with these tests. The sixteen personality factor questionnaire (16pf) (cattell, eber, & Tatsuoka, 1970) measures 16 basic dimensions of personality, called source traits. The neo inventory (costa & mccrae,1992) is designed to measure the big. Five traits in research and clinical settings: projective tests --- ask individuals to respond to ambiguous stimuli in ways that may reveal needs, feeling and their personalities trait. Nature of tests may make it difficult for subjects to engage in intentional deception. Indirect approach may make them sensitive to unconscious features of personality.
