Friday, october 19, 2018 psychology and law interrogations and confession. Pro bono when a lawyer takes on a case for the good of it, and doesn"t charge the normal fee. Defence lawyers that take on very serious cases. They found that 350+ people wrongly convicted and were overturned. Number 1 reason for wrong condition is eyewitness error: 75-80% of the wrong convictions. Second reason is false confessions 25: (1) voluntary. A suspect produces a confession out of the blue and of their own accord. Usually they are quickly eliminated as suspects. Sometimes mentally ill; want their name attached to the case. In canada, confession is not enough; must be backed up with other evidence: (2) coerced- compliant. Can sometimes be due to other pressures other than police: (3) coerced internalized. Canadian police interviews are more likely to use open ended questions than close ended ones. Detail is provided, can nd crime scenes easier.
