Clinical assessment: gathering info about nature, status & treatment of psychological problems begins with a referral question that determines goals of assessment. Differential diagnosis is a process where clinician weighs how likely it is that a person has one diagnosis instead of another. Screening - many questions (identify psychological problems/predict risk for future problems) Selection of appropriate psychological tests & measurements. False positive: test suggests patient is depressed; they are not. False negative: test suggests patient is not depressed; they are. Standardization: everyone who gives this test, gives it this way, with same q"s. Normative comparisons: w the scores of a sample of ppl representative of population. Self-referent comparisons: previous performance on the test. Reliability: how well measure produces same results each time its used. Test-retest: consistency of scores across time same test 2x to same people. Interrater agreement: symptoms re ect clinical status & not bias of interviewer. Construct: is it measuring what its supposed to.
