Document Summary
*if not talked about in class not in slides or additional slides then don"t need to know info. We know there are neurons for specified area if exposed to long to area than get fatigued rate that they fire decreases. If remove stimuli and expose again dampened need recovery time. Neurons tuned to specific stimuli fatigue when exposure is long. Fatigue or adaptation to stimulus causes: neural firing rate to decrease, neuron to fire less when stimulus immediately presented again. Selective means that only those neurons that respond to the specific stimulus adapt. Measure sensitivity to range of one stimulus characteristic. Re-measure the sensitivity to range of the stimulus characteristic. Contrast can be diminished because adapt to high contrast. Therefore not as sensitive to it because tired and adapting. When we view a stimulus with a specific property, neurons tuned to that property fire. Selective adaptation is that this firing causes the neurons to eventually become fatigued, or adapt.
