Early emotions early childhood emotions: mostly determined by facial expressions, behaviour, interest, disgust, happiness are first. Temperment biologically-based general style of reacting emotionally & behaviourally: e. g. calm, happy, outgoing or irritable, fussy, shy. But mild or moderate levels of inhibition (or disinhibition) in infancy didn"t predict anything. Psychosocial theory says personality develops through confronting 8 psychosocial stages (with related crises : each crisis is present throughout life but is especially important during that specific stage. Trust vs. mistrust: during 1st year: depending on love, attention, response to needs trust or mistrust the world. Human attachment does not involve imprinting or any critical period: rather, the 1st few years of life are a sensitive period, was initially assumed that attachment primarily came from mother providing nourishment. Indiscriminate attachment cry, smile, vocalize fore everyone evokes care discriminate attachment. ~3 months: child directs more of these behaviours towards familiar caregivers than strangers specific attachment.
