Separated prefrontal lobes from the rest of the brain. Patients become more docile, emotional flatness, lose iq points, may die. Cut cingulum bundle (fibers connecting prefrontal lobes to limbic system. Should be used only as a last resort. Never on patient who can not consent. Patients with epileptic seizures improved after attack. Used electricity rather than drugs to induce a seizure. Need a brief (less than 1 second) electrical current applied to head. Not good for you, can result in broken bones. Today, patients are anesthetized and partially paralyzed prior to treatment. Can cause permanent brain damage even at low dosages.
