Situaional insomnia: speciic stressor causes people to not sleep, unil situaion has been resolved (can be helped by sleeping pills, which are basically human tranquilizers) Thermoregulaion problem: failure to lower body temperature, acivaion remains high and normal sleep cycle and normal sleep cycle fails to develop. Sleep apnea: quite common, interrupion in breathing during sleep. Problem: people do not start breathing again unless they wake up. Severe cases: can stop for about 1 minute, hundreds of imes in the night, can cause the insomnia. Cause: obstrucion of air passage (loud snores), abnormal brain funcion (sid) Narcolepsy: afects 2-8% of people, people suddenly falls asleep at odd imes, muscle weakness, Begins with rem cause: abnormal iming cycle for rem, depleted supply of hypocreins (used for arousal, wakefulness), oten triggered by strong emoions.
