Document Summary
Difference in distance to each eye show up on different locations on the retina. Brain computes depth base off of the difference (disparity increases as objects get closer) Closers things appear larger, use prior knowledge to make distance judgement. If an image obscures part of something else (and appears complete) it must be closer. Know that straight line converge in the distance ( vanishing point ) Things closers are less dense, as things get farther texture gets denser. Re-sale the size of objects so that they remain constant at any distance. Know that things don"t change in size, thus any changes on the retina image must be do to distance. Learned in the first couple months of life. If no prior experience many illusions fail. Happens automatically after processing about depth is concluded. Many visual illusions play on this ability. Recognize an object as the same shape despite the changes in viewing angles.
