Document Summary
Whereas situational factors are in the background and less obvious e. g. : celebrity couple renews vows: we"re in love! : the words are salient, so we believe them, the external pressure on them to lie is less obvious to us (2) in general, people underestimate the power of situational factors. Assuming internal causes is an automatic thought process whereas using situational information requires cognitive resources e. g. : milgram"s research: people were surprised because they did not think that authority figures could elicit such obedience from ordinary participants. Basking in the reflected glory: only feel jealous if someone close to us succeeded and we were pursuing the same goal, would feel happy for them if they were not pursuing the same goal, when we identify closely with another person, we vicariously enjoy his/her success as if it was our own (e. g. romantic partner vs. a normal friend)
