Moral reasoning (piaget: moral realism --> autonomous morality, moral realism: rules, egocentrism, equality-based, everyone gets something of equal value, autonomous morality: intent, ability to empathize, equity-based, everyone gets what they need, ex. Someone accidently breaking 15 cups is not as bad as someone intentionally breaking one cup. Why or why not: consider things that are relevant, no right or wrong answer. Levels of moral reasoning: preconventional: rules, conventional: societal norms, postconventional: focused on personal beliefs, innate rights. Stage 1: obedience and punishment orientation: preconventional level, focus is on direct consequences, rewards and punishments. Stage 2: self-interested exchanges: preconventional level, different people have different self-interests, which sometimes conflict, compromise. Stage 3: interpersonal accord and conformity: conventional level, attempt to live up to the expectations of important others, what people expect of you, not fighting with people, do your chores, getting along with others, etc.
