Document Summary

Sensation is the stimulation of the sensory receptors. Perception e. g. light eye sound waves ear. Simply: physical stimulus nerve impulses (via transduction) Organizing sensory input and giving it meaning ie. the qualitative experience of the sensation. Transduction: the process of translating" the physical, environmental stimulus into electrical signals (action potentials) Visual receptors: light electrical signal (action potential) Auditory receptors: sound waves electrical signal (ap) Olfactory receptors: scent molecules electrical signal (ap) Touch receptors: physical pressure electrical signal (ap) Humans have more than the standard 5 senses. We receptors detect co2 and salt concentration in blood; bladder fullness; blood vessel dilation (headache) . Robins have an amazing sense of hearing, they actually listen for worms in the ground - many animals have different senses/sensitivity to a given sense. Studies how physical stimuli are translated into psychological experiences. Magnitude estimation i. e. correspondence between physical and perceptual magnitude. Absolute threshold: lowest intensity necessary for a stimulus to be detected.
