Document Summary
Sensation is the process by which our sensory organs translate stimuli into nerve impulses. Perception is organizing this stimulus input and giving it meaning. This process translates physical energy into electrical energy. Human being and perception to world measuring sensitivity of our own apparatus to detect physical signals. Eg dimmest light in which we can see objects. The lowest intensity at which a stimulus can be detected 50% of the time. However, for a stimulus to be detected, the environment contains a background lvl of stimulation for each sense and this level (the adaptation level) must be overcome. Signals must exceed adaptation level to be noticeable. The amount of energy required to overcome the adaptation threshold is the differential threshold. Subject closes eyes and puts one hand in really hot water and one hand in really cold for ~3min. You want each hand to adapt to its respective climate.
