Freud was probably the most important of the early psychologists - he saw that there were sometimes neurological symptoms occurred without physiological reasons. For example - no physical reason but some patients exhibited limb paralysis. He emphasised the role of psychodynamic or unconscious processes. He theorized that these problems resulted from unresolved past conflicts (e. g. childhood) Freud thought that the sexual drive was a primary factor in the development of humans. He had a massive influence on contemporary psychology. Normal psychotherapy takes a long time - could take years. Brain mechanisms for conscious experience of emotions have been discovered as of 1996. Many parts of info. processing occurs outside the awareness. Emphasizes conscious motives- that you still, as an individual human being, have the capability to make decisions. Each person has a certain amount of freedom to do what they want to do.
