The scientific study of behavior and the mind: behavior: actions/responses we can directly observe, mind: internal processes (thoughts/feelings) and states (must infer from behavior since you can"t observe the mind directly) Biopsychology: focuses on the biological basis of behavior (how brain processes, genes, and hormones influence our actions, thoughts, and feelings, evolutionary psychology: focuses on how evolution shaped our minds and behaviors (ex. Mate choice, problem solving: neuroscience: focuses on brain processes and regions. Developmental psychology: examines human physical, psychological, and social development across the entire lifespan. Experimental psychology: focuses on the basic processes like basic learning, sensation and perception, and motivation, much of the research done is using non-human animals, almost all areas of psychology involve experiments, not just experimental psychology. Cognitive psychology: studies higher mental processes, memory, judgment, decision making, problem solving, mental imagery, attention, creativity, psycholinguistics: studies language processes.
