Document Summary
Norms: conventions, customs and laws that apply to a group"s behaviour e. g. driving on the right side of the road in canada, inappropriate to stare at people. Conformity: a change in attitude, behaviour or belief brought about by the real or imagined pressure from others. The part we don"t like about social influence. Changed opinion to be in line with what others are talking about e. g. go to restaurant of a friend"s choice and now you think it is better than the one you wanted. We go to the restaurant but you don"t like it at all. Pressured by the group to do the opposite of what the group wants. Not because they believe in it, but they just want to be opposite. Our behaviour may be shaped by models, even in the absence of direct intentional influence. The more the model does the act the more likely you will do it too e. g. crossing on a red.
