Most cells have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs), gametes each have 23. In vitro fertilization involves mixing sperm and egg cells together in a laboratory dish and placing a few fertilized eggs in uterus of mother. Surrogate mother: carries baby to term; child can have up to 5 parents , man and woman who provide sperm and egg, surrogate mother, and couple who raise the baby. First 22 pairs of chromosomes are same size, called autosomes; in 23rd pair the x chromosome is much larger than y. 23rd pair contains an x and another x or y. Each chromosome consists of one molecule of dna with order of nucleotide pairs determining product, group of nucleotide bases that provide a specific set of biochemical instructions is called a gene. Most genes are same in all people, complete set of genes (genome) makes up person"s heredity and is called a person"s genotype.
