Antipsychotics are a class of psychiatric medication primarily used to
manage psychosis(including delusions, hallucinations, paranoia or disordered thought), principally
for schizophreniaand bipolar disorder, and are increasingly being used in the management of non-
psychotic disorders. Both types block dopamine pathways and cause Parkinson like symptoms. (also
treat anxiety with dementia, OCD, and anxiety disorder).

The atypical antipsychotics (AAP; also known as second generation antipsychotics (SGAs))

as majortranquilisers). Block serotonin as well. Less likely to cause extrapyramidal motor
control disability (negative symptoms increase) . these have increased risk of stroke, cardiac
death, blood clotaand diabetes.
